Key Information for Mixed Deck Freight Services

Preparing Ahead of Time

Cost Structure

Customers should understand the cost-sharing model that allows them to reduce expenses by sharing trailer space with other shipments.

Load Compatibility

Knowing which items can be shipped together will prevent complications due to specific handling requirements or weight restrictions.

Prepare Your Shipment

Use standard pallets or crates, secure items with appropriate packaging, and ensure accurate dimensions and weight for the billing of lading. Proper labelling can ensure special handling needs like “fragile” or “this side up”.

Measure and Weight

Provide accurate measurements and weight for your equipment so we can ensure it fits with the capacity of the truck capacity and avoid unexpected charges.

Shipping Timeline

Mixed Deck Freight may have different shipping timelines compared to Full Truckload (FTL) services due to the consolidation of multiple shipments. When making your request provide your timeline requirements and shipping hours for pick-up and delivery.

Tracking and Communication

Digital tracking is available upon request. Have both the pick-up and delivery contact information available when making your booking for good communication. Our transport specialists and drivers communicate with site contacts to create efficiency and service.

Insurance Options

Maximum liability of $2.00 per pound unless declared valuation states otherwise. For higher valued products RST can offer the necessary Cargo Liability to ensure your product is correctly covered while in our care custody and control. Per our terms and conditions RST is not responsible for delay, loss of market or loss of use, or any other indirect or consequential loss of any kind.

Bill of Lading and Documentation Requirements

Please ensure that you provide a detailed bill of lading that lists all items being shipped, including their names, description and serial numbers. Being aware of the necessary documentation, such as bills of lading and customs paperwork, is essential for streamlining the shipping process. Your advisor is available to guide you on documentation requirements and can connect you with the appropriate customs partner if needed.

Loading, Delivery, and Handling Instructions

To facilitate a smooth and efficient loading process, please notify us if an accessible ramp is available. Although our trailers are typically self-loading, utilizing a ramp may be more effective based on the size of the equipment and the yard's layout. It is crucial for our customers to familiarize themselves with handling procedures upon arrival, including safe unloading practices. This may involve having a spotter present and ensuring a forklift or loader with adequate capacity to handle the weight of the items being unloaded.
